Position Descriptions & Application

The following positions are available for the Music & Enrichment Camp - for campers ages 13-20:

  Assistant Director Activty Leader Music Instructor
Asst. Activity Leader - Recreation Counselor Junior Counselor*

Staff Application - Camp Director, Assistant Director


 

Must be available in the months preceeding camp for planning purposes, and be on-site at during the Teen Camp Week

The Assistant Director will work with the Director to insure that all camp programs and activities are properly developed/organized prior to the start of camp.  The Assistant Director will work with Activity leaders to identify and implement staff requirements and provide necessary expertise/assistance to insure each activity’s success while on site.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with Director to identify entertainment needs for each camp week
  • Explore, interview and finalize contracts with appropriate entertainment options
  • Maintain open communication with the Camp Director
  • Assist camp director (and WSA Director when needed) to problem solve staff and/or camper issues that arise during the camp week
  • Creation and oversight of staff break schedules and non-specific “downtime” in accordance with program requirements
  • Sever as head counselor to mentor and provide support to counselors as needed
  • Mentor and serve as role model for camp activity leaders
  • Other duties as identified by Camp Director

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles, philosophy, and practices of camp administration
  • Demonstrated ability to individually work to accomplish camp goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment and lead when needed
  • Desire and ability to work with individuals with developmental and learning challenges
  • 3+ years direct camp experience

Staff Application - Assistant Director


Activity Leaders (Art, Recreation, Chorus, Dance, Band, Drama, Music Lessons)

The Activity leaders will work directly with Camp Director to develop programming for area of expertise.  While on site, activity leaders will coordinate counselor/assistant requirements with assistant director and maintain direct participation and oversight of all activities associated with area of expertise.  Activity leaders will demonstrate proper staff repo ire with campers at all times and act as mentors to camp counselors. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Development program elements in collaboration with Camp Director and other staff as needed
  • Identify and secure budget approval for program supplies, props etc.
  • Acquire needed supplies, props etc.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and promote all camper activities associated with specific expertise
  • Attend ALL show coordination meetings
  • Identify and carry out specific show requirements for activity
  • Live in cabin with campers (removed from counselor responsibilities as needed to perform functions as “activity leader”
  • Other duties as identified by Camp Director

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise as professional in field, or student pursuing advanced degree
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team leadership environment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead teens
  • Desire and ability to work with individuals with developmental and learning challenges
  • Previous camp experience is a plus

Staff Application - Activity Leaders, Instructors, Assistants, Counselors


Music Instructor

Music Instructors will work under the supervision of the Music Lesson Activity leader  to insure that all program requirements are met.  Music instructors will demonstrate proper staff rapport with campers at all times. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach “up to” 8, 30 minute music lessons per day, Monday thru Thursday.  Lessons may all be in one area of expertise, or 2 or 3 depending on experience, and will be taught to students at various skill levels (generally Beginner & intermediate)
  • Live in cabin with campers and carry out duties of camp counselor (described below) when not in specific activity    

Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older
  • Demonstrated expertise in identified teaching areas
  • Experience teaching “by ear”
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental and learning challenges a plus
  • Previous camp experience is a plus

Activity Assistant (Recreation)

The Activity assistant will work under the supervision of the Activity leader  to insure that all program requirements are met.  Activity assistants will demonstrate proper staff rapport with campers at all times and act as mentors to camp counselors. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Carry out specific daily activity and show requirements as identified by leader
  • Supervise activities as needed
  • Live in cabin with campers and carry out duties of camp counselor (described below) when not in specific activity    

Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older
  • Student pursuing degree in activity area or related field
  • Ability to organize and lead teens
  • Desire to work with individuals with developmental and learning challenges
  • Previous camp experience is a plus

Staff Application - Activity Leaders, Instructors, Assistants, Counselors


Camp Counselor

Camp counselors will work under the leadership of, and report to the Assistant Director.  Camp counselors are tasked with the responsibility of insuring that campers are safe, happy and well cared for, during all camp activities throughout the day and evening.  Camp counselors will model proper behavior for a teen or young adult, and aid in “Activities of Daily Living” (hygiene etc.) for campers where needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide supervision, assistance and “companionship” to campers
  • Live in cabin with campers at ~ 4 to 1 ratio
  • Provide reminders and assistance (if needed) to campers in the execution of daily hygiene activities
  • Create “rules” and structure with cabin mates to maintain cabin and camper cleanliness
  • Work as active “team member” on staff
  • Participate as ACTIVE member in all camp activities
  • Carry out requests of Camp Director & Assistant Director as needed   

Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older
  • Collegiate studies in special education, music or related field a plus
  • Experience or desire to working with individuals with developmental and learning challenges
  • Previous camp (or recreation activity) experience is a plus

Staff Application - Activity Leaders, Instructors, Assistants, Counselors


Junior Counselor

The junior counselor will work under the supervision of the therapist/teachers  and program assistants to ensure that all program requirements are met.  Junior Counselors will demonstrate proper staff rapport with campers at all times.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Carry out specific daily activity and program requirements as identified by leader(s).
  • Support Program Assistant with a group of 5-6 children
    • escorting to/from sessions
    • supervising snack and bathroom needs
    • modeling correct classroom behavior and assisting students with class activities

Qualifications:

  • Age 15-17
  • Sibling of an individual with WS
  • Desire to work with individuals with developmental and learning challenges
  • Previous residential or day camp experience is a plus
